Does Bryan Rust take another step forward in 2024-25?
Bryan Rust's value is often overlooked, despite his consistent production and adaptability within the top six. What can be expected from him in 2024?
PITTSBURGH — As the new season approaches, conversations about the Pittsburgh Penguins roster are inevitable — so you knew this would be coming.
In the coming weeks, there will be a focus on player-specific projections, beginning with none other than Bryan Rust.
Reflecting on the end of the 2022-23 season, there was much debate about whether Bryan Rust could rebound in 2023-24. As the 2024-25 season approaches, it’s clear that he did.
Despite an injury that limited him to just 62 games, Rust managed to score 8 more goals than the previous season, where he recorded only 20 goals in 81 games.
Bryan Rust 2024-25 Projection
Unlike last season, when uncertainty surrounded Jake Guentzel’s contract situation, the Penguins have clearer options for the left wing this year. Drew O’Connor, Rickard Rakell, or rookie Rutger McGroarty will likely fill the spot, with training camp determining the final choice.
If Rust can stay healthy, he should be in the conversation for 30+ goals. This might be a bold prediction, but Rust scored 28 goals in fewer games last season. While age can be a factor, Sidney Crosby has shown that it doesn’t always dictate performance.
Call me crazy, but that’s my prediction for Rust heading into the 2024-25 season. What’s yours? Let me know below.
